ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The City of Elmira, First Arena, and Program of P.E.A.C.E. are benefiting Catholic Charities and Meals on Wheels with a talent show, The P.E.A.C.E. Music Festival, on October 7th.

First Arena will play host to a variety of talent on that Friday. Performers can sign up for one of 24 available time slots up to eight minutes each. While it will cost $50 for performers to showcase their special talent, the proceeds will go back to benefit programs that help the homeless.

"It takes a village to help any issue in our community,” Owens said. “With great people and using your resources, we can do it.”

Catholic Charities and Chemung County Meals on Wheels will benefit from the talent show fundraiser. Proceeds from the show will go towards supporting their programs that provide support services to the homeless population in Elmira and Chemung County.

“A lot of these people we know have drug and alcohol problems, as well as mental wellness issues. We try to gear them into treatment, get them off the street, and get them fed,” Dan Mandell, City of Elmira Mayor, said. “That's where that money is going.”

First Arena operator Steve Donner donated the arena space for the talent show. Since taking over the facility, he said his team has worked to create a state-of-the-art venue for shows and events. He says he's thrilled the arena is helping draw attention to the issue of homelessness locally.

“Homelessness across the country is an issue. It hits close to home; we see it coming to work in the morning,” Donner said. “For us to highlight and support any benefit for the city and the homeless group here is a heartfelt, easy yes.”

People can register to sign up to be in the talent show by calling 607-481-1105. People can also call-in to the Program of P.E.A.C.E. to send donations. People can find more way to send donations online.
