ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Meet Buddha, WENY's Pet of the Week from the Chemung County Humane Society & SPCA!

Buddha is a four-year-old male Siberian husky mix who loves to show his affection. He likes to choose his own canine friends, so it is preferable he meets with any of your current furry friends to see if they get along. The shelter is also unsure how he would be with cats, and it is best if he joins a household with kids who are 10 years old and older.

The SPCA is partnering with EOP for Humane Education Sessions for kids ages 10 through 16. Sessions will take place every Monday starting Sept. 19 through Oct. 24, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. For more information and to sign up, head to the SPCA's education page.

In addition to the Humane Education Sessions, the SPCA will be holding two events on Sept. 24. The first one will be a free rabies clinic that the shelter is co-hosting with the Chemung County Health Department. The second event is an adoption event at the Arnot Mall with other animal shelters from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Only kittens will be available for adoption; there will be no dogs. More information on both events can be found on the SPCA's website.

As Halloween season approaches, Iron Flamingo will also be holding their "Halloween Yappy Hour and Costume Contest" for dogs and their owners on Oct. 2. The event will go from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and $1 of every beer purchased will go towards the SPCA.

If you or someone you know is interested in adopting Buddha, fill out an application on the Chemung County Humane Society & SPCA's website here.
