BATH, N.Y. (WENY) - Earlier this week, the village of Bath made Colin Taft as the new chief police.

Taft was the acting chief from February until June of last year and was the provisional chief of police until the announcement on Monday.

He started his career in 2001 with the Addison Police Department where he became the officer in charge. He also worked briefly for the Corning Police Department and the Steuben County sheriff's office.

Taft has worked for the village for nearly 17 years and has held the rank of sergeant for 6 and a half years, and criminal investigator for 4 years.

A formal ceremony will be held November 1st.
