ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The State of the Art Gallery is open to the public throughout October for two of its exhibits- Equinox and Vessels.

The Gallery features three artists' work in the front of The Gallery, along with local artists' work throughout the room.

Ed Brothers, an artist and member of The State of the Art Gallery, didn’t have time to create artwork until recently.

“I started as an academic in marine biology and then I moved into engineering and later in my period as an engineer I started doing art, which I did as a child. Now that I’m retired, I found that I had enough time to pursue it in a worthwhile way and I decided to join The Gallery to meet up with other artists, exchange ideas, and experience the art community we have in Ithaca,” said Brothers.

In addition to the regular shows that happen in the front of The Gallery, oftentimes there’s a show in the back, which is our Salon- which is a mixed media of various artists, and various subject matter. Brothers has two pieces in the exhibit- two red boats which depict red blood vessels.

The oil pastel drawing titled “Red Boat” have men on the boat who caught fish. The second piece called “Venice 2” depicts a red boat floating on the water.

The Gallery is open on Thursdays through Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. until October 30th. Starting November 3rd through November 27th, The Gallery will feature a new exhibit.

“We welcome everybody and their art: to either be members or to show various open invitationals that we have, I just hope people come down and visit," said Brothers.
