Elmira Man Sentenced For Leaving Scene of a Fatal Hit and Run Accident
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) - An Elmira man will be spending time in jail in connection to a hit and run that killed a person last December.
The Chemung County Court confirmed to WENY News earlier today that 34 year old Santiago Torres has been sentenced to 1 to 3 years in state prison for leaving the scene of a fatal motor accident.
Elmira Police arrested Torres back in April after a report of a person lying in the roadway on the Clemens Center Parkway near Pennsylvania Avenue.
EPD found that the person was dead after being hit by the vehicle and that the evidence on scene shows that the person was struck by a Ford F-150, either red or maroon in color.
Police say the vehicle was likely traveling south on the Clemens Center Parkway at the time of and immediately after hitting the pedestrian.
