Elmira, N.Y (WENY) -- The Downtown Elmira Holiday Parade is set to kick off its 64th year on Friday, Nov. 25th at 10 a.m. A Holiday mainstay since 1956, this year's organizers have promised a surprise float.

"Our entire team is looking forward to presenting the 64th year of the Downtown Elmira Holiday Parade, which has many exciting floats and characters, such as Frozen, Sesame St., Nemo, and a surprise float. Can you guess, Crown-Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich-Tea Cups-Corgi’s?" Parade Committee Chair Deb Sullivan said in a prepared statement.

Always taking place the day after Thanksgiving, the parade is being sponsored by Community Bank for the 15th straight year. Parade organizers are hoping that thousands of spectators line the downtown streets to watch holiday floats and an appearance from Santa and Mrs. Claus.

“Community Bank is extremely proud to sponsor one of the longest-standing family traditions in our community,” Community Bank, Courtney Shaw said.

While only taking place over a course of hours, the planning and logistics that go into creating the parade take much longer. Instead of the work being done by professionals, the work is done by a dedicated team of volunteers.

“This event is the culmination of 12 months of planning, but watching the entire community come together to celebrate makes all the hard work worth it,” said Sullivan
