WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Village of Watkins Glen is giving away free LED light bulbs. There is a catch, however, the light bulbs are being given away on a first come first serve basis.

"We originally got 5000 light bulbs, and we wanted to give away four to each village resident. Only problem is they all come in packs of eight with no way to split them," said Village Clerk Fred Warrick.

That means for the roughly 1000 residents in the village, there are only enough light bulb packs for about 800.

"We don't expect everyone in the village to come, so if you want a pack there should be one available," said Warrick.

Warrick said that the Village was able to do the giveaway through a grant from the Clean Energy Program that Village Trustees Laurie DeNardo and Nan Woodworth had applied for.

Watkins Glen residents can pick their free pack of light bulbs up at the Village Office located on Franklin Street and the Office Park located across from Clute Park. Only village residents are eligible.
