OWEGO, N.Y. (WENY) -- Community members in Owego were able to pick up early Thanksgiving dinners at the Tioga County (NY) Boys & Girls Club parking lot. People were able to stay in their cars as volunteers from the Tioga County Boys & Girls Club brought out food to them.

"We used to try to do it inside before COVID, but we found that doing the drive-thru we’re able to serve more families than we were at just the sit-down meals," said CEO for the Tioga County Boys & Girls Club, Jill Teeter.

Teeter said the Club offers the meal for anyone in the community because food insecurity is always an issue and a concern. She said the group feels like it's a way to give back to the entire community and reach more families.

"At the Boys and Girls Club, our focus is the children, but our board and I really believe that we want to do things for the entire community at large. Because if you serve a community, you’re serving a child," said Teeter.

Teeter said the group's goal was to serve over 300 meals and they accomplished it. The Club managed to give away 312 meals in roughly two hours.

The Tioga Boys & Girls Club is already preparing for its annual Christmas Party which is set for sometime in mid-December.
