ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Three juveniles were taken into custody Thursday after police say they observed them throwing objected onto the road.

Between November 28th and the 30th, Elmira Police said they received six reports of objects being throw at cars from overpasses at multiple locations across the city, with all of the incidents happening shortly after dusk each day. Police say the size of the thrown objects increased each day -- along with the damage done to passing cars.

On Thursday, the Elmira Police Department said they stepped up patrols around several overpasses across the city, and utilized the department's drone, and a 2nd drone owned by the Chemung County Office of Emergency Management that's equipped with infrared.

After units got into place, officers say they saw a damaged car near the underpass on Madison Avenue. Officers created a perimeter in the area, and an officer near Wegmans spotted three juveniles on the Lackawanna Trail near East Washington Avenue. The juveniles were seen throwing objects into the road, police say.

EPD said all three suspects were taken into custody safely, and transported to police headquarters. Police said the juveniles were turned over to their parents.

The investigation is ongoing and if you have any information about these incidents, contact the Elmira Police Department.
