ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Meet Sammy, WENY's Pet of the Week from the Chemung County Humane Society & SPCA!

Sammy is an eight-month-old male French bulldog/beagle mix who is a ball of energy that loves to play constantly. He is friendly with other dogs, but would require a meet-and-greet with any other pup. The SPCA is unsure how he would be with cats. For households with children, he is best with kids ages 6 years old and older. For those who are younger, but have experience with other dogs who match his energy levels, a meet-and-greet is required.

As the season of giving continues, the SPCA is seeking donations to help Sammy and his furry friends stay safe and healthy as they wait for their new home. Currently, it is in need of dry adult dog and cat food, but would also accept items like towels, blankets, Dawn dish soap, paper towels and dog and cat toys. A full list of what the shelter is looking for can be found on its Amazon wishlist.

If you are also looking for gift ideas, the shelter is offering some ideas to help get your shopping done. Items include pet-themed t-shirts, hoodies, totes, ornaments, and necklaces. Apparel sizes range from an adult small to a 2XL.

During winter break, the SPCA will be offering two new Humane Education Courses to keep your little ones busy. On Tuesday, Dec. 27, the SPCA will be holding its "Crafting with Cats" session, where children ages seven to 12 years old can learn safe ways to play with cats and make cat toys with common household items. On Thursday, Dec. 29, the same type of session will be held about dogs called "Crafting with Canines." Both sessions will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

If you or someone you know is interested in adopting Sammy, fill out an application on the SPCA's website here.
