(WENY) -- Flu cases are rising especially in the Twin Tier region with influenza numbers matching Covid numbers.

"The numbers continue to increase, we're seeing an increase week to week in our region here both on the New York and on the Pa side of the border, so it continues to be a real threat when we think about patients who are admitted to the hospital and go on quarantine because you obviously want to keep these patients away from other patients its aerosolized you know you can cough and sneeze and spread that throughout the hospital so we quarantine those patients and we see similar numbers in quarantine patients with Covid patients as well as influenza now." says Guthrie Emergency care physician Jon Rittenberger.

Its important to keep ourselves clean and prevent the spread.

Dr. Rittenberger adds "This season when were all going indoors its probably wise in many environments for you to start to mask up. Remember to wash your hands if you have to cough or sneeze, cover your mouth wash up afterwards and one of the big preventative measures is it's not too late to get your flu shot."

With the holidays right around the corner and gatherings set to occur if you feel sick stay home.

"Please stay home and you know allow your family and loved ones to be together safely and you know don't share any disease with others."
