Athens' Mackenzie Morgan signs to play softball at Tompkins Cortland Community College
ATHENS, P.A. (WENY) - Another local student-athlete is set to compete at the collegiate level. Athens senior, Mackenzie Morgan will continue her academic and athletic career at Tompkins Cortland Community College.
Morgan signed on Wednesday to play softball for the Panthers. Morgan has played a key role for the Wildcats in her career so far at Athens. Mackenzie says she plans on studying recreational activities with the long-term goal of becoming a physical therapist.
She reflected on her time in Athens and is going to miss everything, but is looking forward to this new opportunity.
"I am super excited to go up there and just be able to play softball in college so it's definitely exciting to be able to start where I want to go in life," said Morgan. "I know a lot of girls that are up there and I know a lot of girls that are going to be up there. I went up and visited with my Mom and it felt like home when I was up there. Everything is open, the campus is beautiful, and everybody just seems awesome up there so it just felt like the right place for me."
Morgan will enter her final season with Athens this spring as she prepares to make the jump to collegiate competition.
"It's definitely going to be different and it's definitely going to be difficult but I'm ready to put the work in to see where it gets me," she said.
