ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Chevis Sargent, a 26-year-old Addison man, was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years in state prison for raping a person in Horseheads in January.

"Any notion that... Sargent is innocent of this is absolutely flatly contradicted by the powerful evidence that was presented during this trial," the judge presiding over the case said, according to a press release. "The evidence, quite frankly, was overwhelming.

New York State Police out of the Horseheads barracks arrested Sargent for first degree rape after investigating a sexual assault in Horseheads on January 23rd. 

After Sargent serves his prison time, he faces a maximum of 20 years post-release supervision.
