Isaac Bushey steps down as SUNY Corning head men's basketball coach, will take over women's basketball program
CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) - The SUNY Corning Community College basketball programs are going through some coaching changes shortly after the conclusion of the 2022-23 season. Isaac Bushey has stepped down as the Head Coach of the men's basketball team as he will take over as Head Coach of the women's basketball program the Corning Community College athletics department announced on Monday.
Bushey replaces former Head Coach, Mike Wright, who coached for over 35 years at the high school and college levels and led the Red Barons to an overall record of 79-83 during his time there. Wright coached 10 MSAC All-Conference players, five NJCAA All-Region players, one MSAC Player of the Year and one NJCAA All-American (Amber Edwards).
Bushey spent the last 9 years with the SUNY Corning men's basketball program, leading the team to an overall record of 131-77 with two Mid-State Athletic Conference regular season titles and one MSAC Tournament title. The Red Barons were also nationally ranked multiple times under Bushey, and he led the team to the NJCAA Region III Tournament every season, including four Final Four appearances.
In a Facebook post on Monday night, Bushey said "I want to take some time to say thank you to everyone who has been a member of the Red Barons Men's basketball family and everyone who has helped me over the last 9 years. It meant the world to me to be able to be the head coach of this program and it was truly an honor. Having said that, I am really looking forward to a new challenge and opportunity with our women's basketball program."
SUNY Corning says they will begin a search for a new head men's basketball coach in the weeks to come, and any interested applicants should email [email protected]
