WAVERLY, N.Y. (WENY) -- Over 100 employers were looking for potential new hires at the Waverly High School Job Fair Wednesday, March 1st. Students and the general public from across the Twin Tiers got to browse and meet recruiters, ask questions and see what might fit for them.

If you are a student that is trade based there are positions being hired for today. If you are a student that is college bound you get to use this time to build those connections, learn about the companies that are out there,” said Assistant Principal Ryan Alo.

A variety of industries both local and national attended, including policing, nursing, food service, retail and the military.

It is really critically important that we form and cultivate the collaborations we see taking place here today,” said Leann Tinney, director of economic development and planning for Tioga County.

As the class of 2023 approaches their graduation, they got a chance to collaborate with a resume center. They were taught tips and tricks and given guidance throughout the day.

“Focus on your objectives and connecting your experience to the objectives. And that can include experience that is not job experience. A lot of life experience, volunteering experience and personal experience you can present,” shared Jim Devona, Tioga eeducation lab coordinator for Literacy Volunteers.

The fair allowed Waverly High School students the opportunity to see potential opportunities. For many companies it gave them early opportunities to make a good first impression on members of the next workforce.
