2023 BCANY award winners, All-Section IV teams announced
HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) - The Basketball Coaches Association of New York released this year's Section IV award winners and All-Section IV teams on Thursday.
For the girls awards, Elmira's Jalea Abrams was named BCANY 2023 Player of the Year in Class AA. On the boys side, Elmira's Chris Woodard and Ithaca's Luke Little were named Co-Players of the Year in Class AA. Owego's John Bangel earned Co-Player of the Year honors in Class B with Chenango Forks' Trevor Warpus. In Class C, Tioga's Evan Sickler was named Player of the Year.
Local coaches were also recognized for guiding their teams to successful seasons. Elmira's Ryan Johnson was named BCANY Coach of the Year in Class AA. Horseheads' Jeff Limoncelli earned Coach of the Year honors in Class A, Owego's Chris Evans was named Coach of the Year in Class B, and Brian Card of Tioga earned the award in Class C.
The second annual BCANY All-Star Game will be held on Tuesday, March 21st at Elmira College's Speidel Gymnasium with the girls scheduled to tip-off at 5:45 PM with the boys to follow around 7:30 PM. Admission is $5.00 to watch both games. Players who made the first and second-team all-stars will be eligible to play in the game.
