UPDATE 4/13/23 2:00PM: Virginia State Police have confirmed that 34-year-old Michael Davis has been charged with the kidnapping of Ithaca resident Tatiana David. David would later die when Virginia Police confronted Davis after he crashed the Jeep he was driving with David also inside. 

According to Police Davis started firing at police when they approached the Jeep after the crash. Police subsequently returned fire, with Davis and David suffering what police described as "injuries."

Police then pulled both of them from the Jeep and began giving medical care. David would die at the scene, Davis was transported to a hospital by helicopter where he remains. 

More charges are expected. 


UPDATE 4/6/23 4:00PM: New York State Police confirmed the death of 34-year-old Tatiana David. According to police she was found dead outside of the Jeep Cherokee with an apparent gunshot wound. An autopsy is underway to determine the cause of death.

State police say David and the suspect had a prior relationship and have a four year old child together. Thirty-four year old Michael Davis of Richmond, Virginia is accused of forcing David into the SUV against her will around 7:20AM Wednesday from a home on West Hill Circle in Ithaca. 

According to police, Davis survived the shootout with Virginia State Police and is in the hospital in critical condition. 


UPDATE 4/6/23 10:45AM: Virginia State Police say around 9:40PM Wednesday, a state trooper noticed a vehicle with the wrong license plates on 1-95 South in Fairfax County. When the trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, the SUV sped away.

Police say the Jeep Cherokee was associated with the abduction of Tatiana David of Ithaca early Wednesday morning. The vehicle crashed several miles later near the 152 mile marker in Prince William County, hitting a guardrail before going off the road and crashing into the trees. According to state police, the driver began shooting at police as they approached the vehicle, and troopers returned fire.

Virginia state police say both David and the alleged abductor, identified by New York State Police as Michael Davis, were injured. David died at the scene; Davis was flown to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. 

A gun was recovered from the Jeep. 

The scene caused I-95's southbound lanes in the area to close for several hours, into Thursday morning.

The incident is under investigation by Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation. 


UPDATE 4/6/2023 12:20 a.m.: The missing person alert for Tatiana David was canceled by police at midnight Thursday.


ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) - New York State Police have issued a missing abducted adult alert for a 34 year old female out of Tompkins County.

According to police, 34 year old Tatiana David was last seen on West Hill Circle in Ithaca at 7:20 AM on Wednesday. Police say she was last seen wearing a light gray, knee length coat with fur on the hood, black sweatpants and her hair in braids and tied in a bun.

Police say she was last seen driving with another male, Michael Davis in a white Jeep Cherokee with Virginia registration TVX-2021, tinted windows and a roof rack and that they may be traveling to New York City.

If she is located, police recommend not to approach and to contact 911.
