NEW YORK, N.Y. (WENY) -- Arnot is unveiling a new program this summer in order to help a specific group of patients. Specifically, those with chronic illnesses. Many times people with chronic diseases or illnesses are prescribed medication that can cost exorbitant amounts of money.

“We are very excited that we are deploying a specialty program pharmacy. In conjunction with an organization called Trellis Rx,”  said Ronette Wiley, the chief operating officer at Arnot Health.

Historically, patients with these types of conditions often face hurdles to get the medication they need. More often than not certain prescriptions cannot be filled at any pharmacy. Patients are often on intense or high doses of medication that need to be monitored and taken regularly.

“The recipients of this program will be patients with chronic diseases who are on very high-cost medications. Such as patients with cancer, diabetes, gastrointestinal disorders, hepatitis, and HIV,”  said Wiley.

As medical technology and pharmacology become more advanced, people are living longer with more and more complicated medical issues.

“The timing is perfect because the cost of medication continues to skyrocket. More and more patients have chronic diseases,” added Wiley.

Arnot said anyone is welcome to register for the program, so their medical needs can be met where they are.

“Specialty pharmacy medications are such that they can't go to their local pharmacy to get them. They work with a pharmacy that may be in another state or across the United States,” Wiley concluded.
