Horseheads Apartment Building Damaged in Early Morning Fire, Two People Rescued

3PM UPDATE: The Horseheads Fire Department released an update on Monday morning's fire, saying crews were called to the scene at about 5:45AM for a fire at the apartment home at 210 E. Franklin Street.
When crews arrived, heavy flames were seen on the second floor, and two occupants were still inside. The people were rescued, and taken by ambulance to a local trauma center.
Fire officials say flames were able to spread through the roof of the apartment building, due to several additions that were added on to the original structure, built in the 1800's.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is still underway.
