Regional job fair returns to SUNY Corning CC
CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- The regional job fair at SUNY Corning Community College serves as a way for local businesses and prospective employees to meet and network face-to-face. Dozens of local employers came together at Corning Community College on Thursday in hopes of recruiting good employees.
“It’s great for our students because it’s right here, but it’s really great for the community,” said Jeanne Eschbach, SUNY Corning CC’s Executive Director of Workforce Education and Academic Pathways.
Roughly 80 employers set up at the fair, hoping to recruit both part and full-time employees. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., companies in healthcare, law enforcement, living services, and more pitched their openings to job seekers in CCC's gymnasium.
“Having a job fair, I believe, (helps) recruit young people, people looking for a job, or people transitioning to a new career,” Job seeker Mo Morisseau said.
Thursday was the first time Morisseau had gone to a job fair to look for an opportunity. He says recruiting events like this one are great because managers and employees can meet in person, and get straight to business.
“(There’s) more opportunity for you to get hired when people see you,” Morisseau said, adding, “A lot of the time you submit a resume, the computer will not recognize you, but people tend to say, 'Hey I want to see this person,' and when they see you, (it’s) a great thing.”
SGT. Justine Peterson was a member of the New York National Guard recruiting job seekers Thursday afternoon. She said the fair is a great opportunity to meet with the community and share what they do.
“I think it's a great opportunity for people to come talk to us even if they are not interested in joining the military just to kind of learn what we do,” Peterson said, adding, “We're able to express what we do in the military day-to-day life.”
The 2023 Regional Job Fair was put together by CSS Workforce New York. People seeking a new job can speak with a Career Specialist that can help people find a job with a local employer.
