Chemung Valley Montessori Students Walk, Jump, Climb for Fundraiser
BIG FLATS, NY (WENY) -- Chemung Valley Montessori School hosted its fourth annual walk-a-thon fundraiser Tuesday morning.
Not your typical walk-a-thon, the route was designed as an obstacle course for children ages two to 11 to get up and active. The course began on the playground, and through the school's field; kids jumped on mats, crawled through tunnels and hopped over logs.
"There is an obstacle course, more parkour; they'll go through a couple of times and collect a bracelet," explained Dr. Laura Carapella, Head of School at Chemung Valley Montessori.
Money raised from the fundraiser goes towards professional development, school technology and other uses for the school.
"We wanted to find a way to incorporate more students and make it more like a community event," explained Kailea Reed, Director of Admissions for Chemung Valley Montessori School.
The fundraiser brought in over $11,000, surpassing its goal of $10,000.
