SOUTHPORT, N.Y. (WENY) -- Back in February, a tax exemption program was signed into law for Chemung County first responders. At the town of Southport's board meeting Tuesday night, the resolution passed unanimously to give a partial tax cut to first responders.

It’s to show our thanks for the services they provide to the community and to also give them a little benefit for the services they provide," said Southport Town Supervisor, Joe Roman.

The partial tax exemption would be for volunteer firefighters and volunteer ambulance workers in Southport. Roman said Southport's resolution mirrors Chemung County's.
