HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- The almost 100-year-old Ford Model A cars were spotted Saturday, June 17th in the Southern Tier. The car originally made its debut during the Great Depression.

"Model A was built between 1928 and 1931," says Bill Wirz, President, of Southern Finger Lakes Model A Ford. "It's a Ford car and they built four and a half million of them. And when you think about that time it was the depression and they were selling millions of those cars and they were very reasonably priced."

Anywhere between 85 and 100 thousand of these cars can be seen on the roads. Some cars people come across are in their original condition; minus a paint touch-up or two.

Bill shared with WENY News, these cars are not meant to go fast, so their sweet spot is 40 miles per hour. The car can still hit the road for long periods of time like 800-plus mile road trips.
