Athletic trainer walks over 100 miles to combat childhood hunger
ATHENS, PA (WENY) -- An athletic trainer is taking a big step in the battle against childhood hunger.
By Friday, June 23rd, Athletic trainer Bill Frye will have walked 101 miles between different Pivot Physical Therapy locations in the region to help draw awareness around childhood food insecurity. So far, Frye has walked from Tunkhannock, to Wyalusing, and then from there, to Towanda, all to give back to CHOP's programs.
“We're here to help them out as best as they can because they're doing really good work in our community,” Frye said.
On Wednesday, Frye made the trek all the way from Towanda to Athens on foot after starting his journey on June 19th.
Through the walk, Frye has raised support for hungry kids over the last nine years. Since 2020, the event has brought in roughly $20,000 in support for CHOP. He explains the impact behind why he walks and how it has helped in the long run so far.
“We've helped out 17,000 children just within those four years,” Frye said, adding, “Just seeing, hearing that number, and obviously wanting to do more and then trying to increase that number is very satisfying, knowing that we can help kids in the area.”
Bill plans to continue supporting CHOP through his walks for years to come.
