Construction on Northside Project moving quickly
CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- After the ground broke at Northside Place in 2022, the construction process has gone off without a hitch in 2023, with multiple houses already standing. The project aims to provide another rental housing option in Corning.
“It provides another housing choice for individuals looking to relocate to our area or to live in the city of Corning,” Jennifer Miller, Corning's Planning & Economic Development Director, said.
For the first time in years, the site where the Northside Blodgett Middle School formerly stood is no longer just an empty lot. With the ground-breaking in December 2022 to kick off construction, Rochester-based Riedman Companies is now building a community of 25 single-family rental homes.
“To have a site that's been undeveloped now be developed and more activity, I think the neighborhood is happy about that,” Miller said.
Miller is excited about how quickly the construction process is moving. With multiple units almost ready for move-in, she says people have already reached out to express their interest to move in.
“There (have) already been 15 permits pulled for the project for a total of 25 houses that are going to be developed,” Miller said, adding, “There's a few that are close to their final inspections, so it has been going well.”
Rent is expected to range from $2,800 to $3,500 a month.
All of the construction on Northside Place should be completed by 2024.
