ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- Catholic Charities of Chemung and Schuyler Counties is helping to raise awareness of the issue of domestic violence, by hosting a community fundraiser at Friday's Elmira Pioneers game on July 14th.

Attendees are encouraged to wear purple, the color of domestic violence awareness. The organization will also be selling shirts, as well as hosting a jersey raffle, and a 50/50 raffle. Funds raised at the event will benefit Catholic Charities First Step program. There will also be a photo both, and giveaways.

According to the organization, its First Step Victim Services program served nearly 200 people with over 4,100 services. The First Step program helps victims of crime, with a strong focus on domestic violence.

Gates for the game open at 5:35; first pitch is at 6:45PM.

First Step has a 24-hour hotline, which can be reached by calling or texting 607-742-9629. For more information on the program, visit cs-cc.org, or speak with an advocate at 607-535-2050.
