CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- The fifth annual Kids’ Farmers Market returned to the Southeast Steuben County Library. In collaboration with the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, for the second time this year, kids under the age of 18 can shop for local produce.

“Today was our second of the season’s farmers market, and it is a wonderful way to get food in the hands of kids,” said Children’s Librarian at Southeast Steuben Library, Sue McConnell.

At the first market this summer, McConnell said nearly 220 kids and parents combine came to shop the Southern Tier’s finest local produce. The second event of the season racked in around 200 shoppers.

One kid shopper Breanna said, “I am getting grapes, potatoes, and watermelon.”

Breanna’s Mom Heather brought her two daughters so they can shop for themselves. At events like the Farmers Market, Heather encourages Breanna and Olivia to lead the way.

Each farmers market offers a fresh assortment of produce including fruits, vegetables even starches like Potatoes.

“So come out, let your kids pick what they like. A lot of the kids will try something new if they get to pick it,” encourages McConnell.

Summer 2023 will offer Kids’ Farmers Markets on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. through August 16th
