PENN YAN, N.Y. (WENY) -- A Finger Lakes homemade custard stand is getting national recognition, in one man's quest to find the best ice cream in America. Spotted Duck Creamery was voted number one by YouTuber and TikToker Cohen Thompson, who traveled with his friends looking for the best ice cream shop in 48 different states.

Co-owner of the Spotted Duck Creamery, Sam Solomon said he was tagged in Thompson's YouTube video when he asked for suggestions on ice cream shops to visit. Many people commented for Thompson to stop at Spotted Duck Creamery, so Solomon reached out to him but heard nothing back until...

"One day, one of our employees was taking an order and she put it on the board. She said it was weird they were filming me when I was taking their order. I looked up and I saw the name was Cohen and I knew they were here," said Solomon.

After Thompson ranked each ice cream shop, he named the Spotted Duck Creamery as number one, giving it a 9.7 out of 10. Solomon said what makes Spotted Duck's custard so unique is the duck eggs.

"Most, pretty much all ice cream is made with eggs. It's usually chicken eggs and most people don't realize that. We substitute duck eggs for chicken eggs. It creates a creamier, richer texture, and flavor," said Solomon.

Bob Bibee visits New York several times a year. One of his daughters suggested he should stop into the Spotted Duck Creamery, and on Friday he tried the custard for the first time.

"For sure this is a first, and it’s wonderful. It’s so smooth," said Bibee.

Solomon said he and his team knew they would finish close to the top, and were cautiously optimistic about being number one.

"It was an amazing validation of what we've been doing here and all of the efforts that go into making the custards," said Solomon.

Thompson plans to travel to Alaska and Hawaii to see if Spotted Duck Creamery can remain on top.
