WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WENY) - With NASCAR returning to Watkins Glen International in just three weeks, drivers are beginning to rev their engines in anticipation of the big weekend of racing.

Out of all of the drivers taking the start line in August, Erik Jones is one returning driver who is looking forward to getting back on the race track.

Jones has four top 10s this season including a 9th-place finish last weekend at Pocono Raceway. He is ranked 28th in the Cup Series standings with 322 points.

Jones is excited to return to Watkins Glen in a few weeks as he looks forward to racing through the fast and tough course.

"Just a fast place, they repaved it there in 2016 I believe and ever since then, it's just kind of been kind of high speed and really wide open so that's fun for a road course for us and it's just a good track for our cars too," Jones said. "I think we put on a good show there, and then the area, I love the area too. That time of year is really beautiful to go up there. I feel like our road course cars have been getting better and better so hopefully we can take some of the stuff we learned this year and show it off there."

Jones also discussed the intensity of the Go Bowling at the Glen at WGI, with the event being the second to last regular season race.

"This is the time of year you've got to turn the performance on and it gets tough week to week," he said. "It's hot races and recovering in between them is not easy and you just try to stay focused and take advantage of every race at this point."

The Go Bowling at the Glen NASCAR Cup Series race is scheduled for Sunday, August 20th. The full schedule for NASCAR weekend at Watkins Glen International can be found here.
