The Tour de Keuka returns Saturday
HAMMONDSPORT, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Tour de Keuka, the annual bike ride and fundraiser that benefits the United Way of the Southern tier is back Saturday.
The charity event allows interested riders to ride around Keuka Lake in 45, 60 or 100-mile routes. The tour helps programs the United Way supports like the Imagination Library, delivering home-cooked meals to needy seniors and people in poverty.
"It fills in the gaps. United Way does a lot of workplace campaigns and fundraising in the fall, but we always have needs," said Lois Wilson, Director of Communications and Community Engagement for the United Way of the Southern Tier.
As of Wednesday morning, the Tour de Keuka has a little less that 200 people signed up. The event can only host 350 participants. Interested riders have until Friday to register online. If open spots are still available, people can sign up for the ride the morning off the bike ride.
Riders are asked to fundraise $150 for the United Way in order to participate. Those who raise $300 or more will receive a free Tour de Keuka cycling jersey.
The first ride leaves the Hammondsport Fire Department at 7 a.m. Saturday.
