ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) --  The Elmira Police Department welcomed a new officer into the department on Tuesday, August 1st, swearing in Abdallah Hassan. A graduate of the Spring, 2022 session of the Southern Tier Law Enforcement Academy, Hassan previously worked at the Ithaca College Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management.

Officer Hassan is now set to enter the Elmira Police Department Field Training Program to get a feel for serving in the department. During training Hassan will work on several different shifts. 

"The Elmira Police Department wishes to recognize Officer Hassan for his hard work in getting to this point in his law enforcement career and wishes him well on a long career ahead of him in serving the City of Elmira," the Elmira Police Department said in a prepared statement.
