United Way of the Southern Tier Holding Back to School Drive

CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) - With fall around the corner, the United Way of the Southern Tier is holding a back-to-school drive.
The organization says they are collecting hygiene items for students in need in Chemung and Schuyler counties.
The items can be delivered to United Way of the Southern Tier's physical location on 88 East Tioga Avenue in Corning. United Way says pick ups can also be arranged.
The organization will then distribute the items collected to local schools and youth centers where there is an identified need.
The drive ends on September 15th.
United Way of the Southern Tier says that in the area, nearly 20 percent of children live in poverty. However, families that receive government benefits such as
SNAP or WIC cannot use that assistance to purchase essential hygiene items such as toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, deodorant, and more.
