Around 2:50 a.m. today, the sun came directly over the Equator, signaling the Fall Equinox.  The word Equinox is Latin for 'Equal Nights'. Our days shorten in  the fall as the sun continues to move through the Southern Hemisphere into December, lowering the angle of between us and the sun. Additionally, the lower angle means less direct sunlight and cooler temperatures.

While we expect temperatures to gradually fall through the season, odds favor the first month of fall to be warmer than normal, particularly the first couple of weeks. These warmer than normal temperatures will coincide with some drier normal conditions during the next month.
