CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- Halloween is a time to be silly, or scary, and express yourself to the fullest.  There were a lot of creative costumes around the towns, and WENY spoke to a few kids about the characters they decided to become for the night.

Popular costumes tonight were Mario characters, Ghost Face, inflatable dinosaurs, and Barbie.  One boy took a different route, and dressed as a City of Corning icon, Little Joe, instead.

"It was built in 1913 or 1914, and it was in commission until June of 1973," said Gage, who was dressed as the Little Joe Tower.  Gage was full of fun facts, and he and his family were proud of the costume.

One little girl decided to put a spooky twist on a classic costume to stand out in the crowd.

"I like skeletons and mermaids, so my stepmom sewed me this.  I'm like yeah, I want [this costume] instead of the fancy one, I want the scary one," said Margaret, who was dressed as a skeleton mermaid.

In addition to being cute, funny, or scary, some costumes had a special personal connection. One girl dressed as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz said she had a particularly unique story.

"The first time I ever watched the Wizard of Oz when I was 2, and I was also born during a tornado," said 11 year old Clarissa.

Even the chilly weather couldn't put a damper on the Halloween spirit.
