11/19/2023 3:30 PM UPDATE: NYSP has named the victim.  They say the pedestrian was John W. Viviano, age 40, of Sidney, NY, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

11/18/2023 2:30 PM UPDATE: State Police say they are looking for a 2019 or newer white Volvo semi-truck with damage to the front passenger side.  Anyone with information is asked to call New York State Police at 585-398-4100.

11/18/2023 1 PM UPDATE: Both lanes of traffic on I-86 Westbound are now open.

BATH, N.Y. (WENY) -- State Police are investigating a fatal hit and run on I-86 Westbound near exit 38 in the Village of Bath. 

Police say this happened sometime in the late hours of Friday, November 17th, or the early hours of Saturday, November 18th.  They say a vehicle hit a pedestrian, and did not stop. 

Troopers say the vehicle in question may have significant front-end damage, and are asking for the public's help to find this vehicle.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the New York State Police at 585-398-4100.

According to NYSP, I-86 Westbound between exits 38 and 39 will be closed until further notice.
