Meet Roscoe, WENY's Pet of the Week!
HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- Meet Roscoe, WENY's Pet of the Week from the Horseheads Community Animal Shelter!
Roscoe is a 4-year-old, male, Redbone Coonhound. He came to the Horseheads Community Animal Shelter after his owners could not take care of him anymore. He has a great temperament, Roscoe loves to hang out with other dogs, cats and even children.
"He's kind of funny, he checks himself out in the mirror all the time," said Mike Bombarger, the handler for Horseheads Community Animal Shelter.
Roscoe is up to date on all his shots, and is scheduled to get neutered soon.
With Thanksgiving a few days away, Bombarger offered a few tips for pet owners whose animals may not like being around people too much.
"Find the dog a nice quiet place in the house, [like] a bedroom. Don't allow your guest to knock on the door. If you know they're coming, just kind of let them in," said Bombarger. "Make sure you watch what you feed your dog... they can eat some Thanksgiving food [like] carrots, white turkey meat, plain sweet potatoes, [but] don't give (them) any turkey skin, turkey bones... things like that."
The shelter just received a food donation from Midwestern Pet Food Company, but they are asking for donations of cleaning supplies from the public.
If you or someone you know is interested in adopting Roscoe, fill out an application on the Horseheads Community Animal Shelter website to be considered.
