HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- Meet Roscoe, WENY's Pet of the Week from the Horseheads Community Animal Shelter!

Roscoe is a 4-year-old, male, Redbone Coonhound. He came to the Horseheads Community Animal Shelter after his owners could not take care of him anymore. He has a great temperament, Roscoe loves to hang out with other dogs, cats and even children.

"He's kind of funny, he checks himself out in the mirror all the time," said Mike Bombarger, the pet handler for Horseheads Community Animal Shelter.

Roscoe is up to date on all his shots, and is scheduled to get neutered this week. As of recently, he is also one of the last dogs left at the shelter and has been there the longest.

"He would be great with an active family, he loves his long walks. He's not much of a runner, so you don't have to worry about him, you know, pulling away or running. He walks really good on a leash. A little bit of training, he'd be a great off leash dog, especially out hiking."

Bombarger says while the shelter is scheduling events for the 2024 calendar, they're also looking for volunteers as well as people with experience in grant writing.

If you or someone you know is interested in adopting Roscoe, fill out an application on the Horseheads Community Animal Shelter website to be considered.
