ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY)-- The 65th Elmira Holiday Parade will be spreading the holiday cheer across the city on Friday. Preparations are already in full swing and the crew was in and out of the rain today, getting the costumes in place for Friday.

'' The 65th parade is very important to the community. It brings a lot of kids down here for one hour. Everyone gets to see these awesome characters and floats that we put together. Also, it allows people to go to these businesses afterward for lunch and just have a nice little gathering the day after Thanksgiving.,'' said Kylene Kiah- the Elmira Downtown Development Executive Director.

The parade, which is sponsored by Community Bank, N.A., Kennedy Valve and Chemung Supply Corporation, will host over 20 floats and 200 costume characters. They got characters ranging from Mickey Mouse to the Incredibles.

''Every year, we like to get new characters, and Bluey and Bingo will be tagging along this year. We are really excited about this,'' said Kylene Kiah.

Kylene said that this long-standing tradition is a community event with different businesses and organizations participating. Local schools will be involved with their marching bands blowing the trumpets and beating those drums.

The holiday parade is a mile long, starting and ending at the Clemens Center. .It begins 10 am on Black Friday at West Water Street.
