ELMIRA, NY (WENY)-- The holidays are about giving back to the community, and that involves putting a smile on kid's faces. The Valu Home Center in Elmira, which opened its doors over two decades ago, is helping kids in Elmira have a Happy Holiday through its 'Do It for Others Holiday Toy Drive'.

''When we brought this idea to our staff, associates, and other managers, we wanted to find a way for every kid to open a gift on Christmas Day,'' said Andy Hakes, the store manager of Valu Home Center.

Andy said that the Valu Home Center finds a way to give back to the community, and this year they sending toys to kids in Elmira.

''100 percent of the toys collected, that we raise money for will stay in Chemung County. So, all the toys raised in Elmira, stay in Elmira,'' said Andy Hakes.

This is the first year of the campaign and they are partnering with the Salvation Army. The goal is to collect new, unwrapped toys at each Valu Home Center location. Additionally, they were able to raise money to buy toys for the kids.

''Two Saturdays ago, we had a Hot Dog Bake Sale Toy Drive and raised over $1000. All the money went into purchasing new toys,'' said Andy.

Andy added he wanted to thank everyone who donated toys or supported the bake sale.

If you would like to support, the toy drive campaign runs through December 3rd.
