CORNING, NY (WENY) -- Nearly four years after it closed, a former Walgreens in downtown Corning is being torn down.

Demolition crews worked Wednesday to raze the vacant building on Denison Parkway. The property had been surrounded by chain link fence the past few weeks.

Previously, the building was a Walgreens for about 11 years, before it closed in February of 2020. According to city officials, Byrne Dairy has been approved to develop the site.

Once Byrne Dairy is completed, it would become the third gas station and convenience store in a two-block span of Denison Parkway, along with a Dandy Mini Mart, and 7-Eleven.
