(WENY) -- From playing cornhole at campsites, to the national championships, one Addison High School student is at it again. Kayden Blencowe has played cornhole for almost five years and is in the Minor Leagues for the American Cornhole League (ACL).

"It started at a small campsite. I started traveling around to small events close by [and] really getting into it and then I got into the ACL," said Blencowe.

Blencowe said it took a lot of practice and now he travels across the country to play.

"[It takes] lots of practice and then when you go to these events once you win you move up. I’m at the highest right now. Certain events if you make it to the Final Four, you’ll make it to ESPN(2)," said Blencowe.

In 2022, Blencowe's hard work paid off, as he won it all in the ACL National High School Cornhole Singles Tournament.

"I was a very low seed [and] had to play really good players [right] off the bat. I think I played 10 or 15 games in a row against really good players and then I made it to the Final Four and they put it on a little broadcast not as big as ESPN. [Then] I beat the best player there He was the number one seed. Then in the championship, I think I won by five points. It was amazing," said Blencowe.

Fast forward to December 28th, and Blencowe was back to defend his national title in Myrtle Beach. He also said this was the first time he was on ESPN(2)/a national broadcast.

"A couple of my games were very close. [I] probably should've lost a couple of them, but I didn't. It was very nerve-racking but after the first round, the nerves went away," said Blencowe.

Unfortunately, Blencowe was beaten by his opponent Tony Forbes 13 to 6 in the Semi-finals. Forbes went on to win the 2023 National High School Cornhole Singles Tournament.

Blencowe will compete in the doubles tournament on December 30th.
