BIG FLATS, N.Y. (WENY) -- Knowing what to do in extreme weather isn't as easy as it sounds.

Living in the Southern Tier, weather events like nor'easters, ice storms, snow storms, flooding, and even tornadoes can all come into play. In order to help, the Chemung County Office of Civil Defense is teaming up with the State Citizen Preparedness Corps for a one-hour training program.

If that sounds like something you'd want to participate in, it will be free and open to the public on January 17th at the Big Flats Community Center. Keep in mind that you'll have to pre-register before the date.
