CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) - Another local student-athlete is set to compete at the collegiate level as Corning's Camryn Stefanini signed his Letter of Intent on Thursday to bowl for Midland University, who competes in the NAIA.

Family, friends, teammates, and coaches all came together at Corning-Painted Post High School to celebrate Camryn's signing.

Camryn is a four-year member of the Corning Hawks bowling team where he helped them to a Section IV Class A Championship in 2021 and a third-place finish at the NYSPHSAA State Championships. Stafanini also competes in local, state, and national bowling tournaments year-round.

Camryn excels in the classroom. He is a member of the National Honor Society and holds a 95% GPA. Stafanini plans to study Elementary Education, with endorsements in Special Education or Coaching.

After making things official, Camryn talked about why MU was the right fit for him.

"It's something I've been looking forward to for a very long time and it's something that I've pushed for and worked hard for" Stefanini said. "MU has a very good bowling program, but they also have a very good education program. They have a bunch of schools right around them that you could go up, and teach at them so that you can learn from a bunch of different levels at a bunch of different school systems. It'll definitely be a big change going from a small school to a little bit of a bigger school. It will definitely be a bigger adjustment, but I think I'll be ready for it and I'll take it on head first."

Stefanini also reflected on a stellar career at Corning.

One of the things I'll cherish the most is definitely the friendships I've made. The team bonding that we've had and the fun times we've had is something that I'll never forget. Not necessarily the scores, but more the people I bonded with" he added.
