ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Businesses in the Southern Tier with several vacancies were at the Elmira Career Center, Wednesday afternoon, to speak with people who are looking for a job. Current employees were able to talk about the qualifications and expectations that employers are looking for.

It was more than a job expo. Rae Ann Mason, the Deputy Director for Chemung Schuyler Steuben Workforce New York, said these events give people a chance to polish up on their resumes and interview on the spot for open positions.

She added, there is always a need when it comes to filling vacancies in the community, but this specific job expo focused on entry level jobs that specialize in health care, law enforcement, and production.

“It is a connection,” she said. “Often times, people don’t necessarily know what they want to do, and they don’t know what is out there. So... if you come in, talk to people from these businesses, they will tell you. They’ll tell you what the jobs are like...they’ll tell you what the pay is like.”

The CSS Workforce’s Career Center is always open during the week for anyone who missed today’s job expo and needs a job. The center is located at Elmira Center, 318 Madison Avenue, in Elmira.
