ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Short films were made in Elmira recently, featuring local landmarks, history, and actors from the area.  At the Community Arts of Elmira and Meaningful Movies at the Park Church Short Film Showings on Sunday afternoon, the creators of the film Flood Line highlighted their work.

Creators say Flood Line was created from a love of film and appreciation of art.  Flood Line follows the story of three girls staying in a new place under mysterious circumstances.

"I think that they're perspective is used to kind of introduce the audience to some of the mystery surrounding the past in Elmira, especially with the flood and the different viewpoints people tend to have," said Tyler Macri, the director of photography for the short film Flood Line.

Film makers say choosing Elmira as the setting was intentional.

"While we were going to school at Ithaca, we would explore the surrounding towns. We had a friend who grew up in the area, and told us about Elmira's history, and was like you should check out Elmira.... As the years went on, we came here a couple of more times for some film things, and then when I started this film, I couldn't get the history of Elmira out of my head," said Sophia Feuer, the director of the short film Flood Line.

The showing of the films was put on by Community Arts of Elmira and the Park Church.  They work to spread creative expression and art to the community.  The films shown Saturday were The Fall of Cannonsville and A Black Hole is A Black Hole in the Ground, which touch on historic elements of upstate New York with allusions to childhood.

The goal of the showcase is to show that Elmira and the Finger Lakes Region are primed for film making.

"I think community arts are important because not everybody has an outlet into the arts at home, or an artist in their family, or a program they feel connected to at school...It provides a space for everyone to come and express themselves," said Feuer.

Community Arts of Elmira is expected to host more events like this soon.  More information about Community Arts of Elmira can be found here.
