PAINTED POST, NY (WENY) -- Congressman Nick Langworthy toured a manufacturer in Steuben County Friday, while discussion federal legislation that aims to help grow jobs.

Siemens Energy in Painted Post employees about 470 local workers, and manufacturers high-speed reciprocating compressors for the natural gas industry.

During Langworthy's visit, he talked about the importance of American energy, and touted his bipartisan bill, the CAREERS Act, which he says will help address the skills gap and workforce shortage in rural communities, from industries like manufacturing and healthcare.

"This is to give a shot in the arm to rural America, which is often left behind in the public policy realm. I mean an awful lot goes into our urban core , and I'm not saying they don't deserve our fair share, but we're a hard working tax payers too in our rural communities and that's what this careers act would do," Langworthy (R-NY23) said.

Langworthy introduced the bill last week. He says if passed, it would help by investing in training programs and create partnerships that would make rural economics more competitive and sustainable.
