One man dead after kayak capsizes in Seeley Creek in Southport
UPDATE: 1/30/24 12:00 P.M. -- The 44-year old man who died after the kayak he was in capsized in Southport has been identified as Shawn R. McWhorter, of Pine City. According to State Police, the death is still being investigated.
SOUTHPORT, N.Y. (WENY) -- On Sunday, January 28th around 1:40 p.m. New York State from Horseheads responded to a call for a kayaker that capsized on Seeley Creek in the town of Southport. Police say a 44-year-old man was kayaking with two other people when the kayak capsized.
The 44-year-old man was rescued from the water and taken for medical care to Arnot Ogden Medical Center. When he arrived at Arnot Hospital, he was pronounced deceased. The victim has not been identified.
According to police, the two other people with the man were able to make it to shore safely. There is an ongoing investigation.
