NICHOLS, N.Y. (WENY) -- The man accused of setting fire to a horse barn at Tioga Downs has pleaded guilty.

According to the Tioga County District Attorney's Office, 33-year-old Boyd Fenton pleaded guilty after being indicted arson, assault, and 30 counts of interference with injury to certain domestic animals -- all of which are felonies. In total, Fenton was indicted on 105 charges.

As WENY News reported, 30 horses and a cat were killed in the November fire which was ruled as arson. A trainer who tried saving race horses suffered second degree burns. Fenton was arrested after New York State Police said an investigation revealed that Fenton went into the barn and intentionally set it on fire.

The Tioga County District Attorney's Office said that Fenton will be sentenced under the maximum amount of time allowed under the law. For the charge of arson, Fenton will receive a sentence of between 5 and 15 years. For assault, he will receive a sentence of 7 years with 3 years of post release supervision. For the 30 counts of interference with injury to certain domestic animals, he will receive a sentence between 16 months to 4 years on each count. The DA's office said because all of the crimes resulted from the single act of setting the fire, New York State law requires that all sentences be served concurrently. Effectively, Fenton will spend somewhere between 7 to 15 years in prison.

Sentencing is scheduled for April 19th, 2024.
