WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Village of Watkins Glen is temporarily shutting down the water supply on Tuesday, February 13th.   The supply will be shut off from 3 AM to 7 AM.  The water shut off is for a repair to the site on Steuben Street.

"We have a large water project going on, on the side hill on Steuben Street, to repair one of the largest pipes. We have to reconnect to the new system, we'll have to do this one other time as well," said Village of Watkins Glen Mayor Laurie DeNardo.

Mayor DeNardo said they tried to pick a time where the water shut off would be least disruptive to the people who live and work in Watkins Glen.  These repairs are part of the the Village of Watkins Glen Water System Improvement Project, which is a part of the New York State Home and Community Renewal Project.

"Its a big project, its a $30 million project to get our water systems up to par, and its been a long time coming and were really excited to get to the next stage and get this connection done," added Mayor DeNardo.

Mayor DeNardo also said she does not anticipate the shutoff lasting the full 4 hours.  The Village of Watkins Glen FaceBook page will be the place to check for updates, and Mayor DeNardo says they will post when the water supply is back up and running.
