UPDATE: (2/9) 7:40 a.m.: The Ithaca City School District acknowledged in a statement the damage to their school grounds Friday Morning. The district identifying the part of the school that was crashed through is the Physical Education Office. 

Officials say the office will be closed Friday along with the parking spaces near the school on Linn Street. According to the press release, Fall Creek Elementary School will continue with classes as normal.


ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) -- A police chase led to a vehicle crashing inside of Fall Creek Elementary School on Feb. 8th around 9:55 p.m. according to the Ithaca Police Department.  

Ithaca police were attempting to pull over a driver for New York State vehicle and traffic law violations near Fall Creek. The vehicle then fled from the Officer. Within moments, the driver crashed into a parked vehicle and pushed it into the school building's wall.  

IPD says the driver reversed the vehicle at a high speed towards the Ithaca Police Officers but did not crash into them. The driver again tried to drive forward and hit the parked vehicle, pushing the parked car further into the school.  

The driver has been arrested, but additional details like his name and charges are still pending as the investigation remains ongoing.  

The Ithaca Police received additional help from the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office, Bangs Ambulance, and the Ithaca Fire Department.
