Chili and Chowder with a Chance for Chocolate to help local animals in need
WELLSBORO, P.A. (WENY) - On Saturday, February 10th, Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries will be hosting Chili and Chowder with a Chance for Chocolate during Wellsboro’s Winter Celebration. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., guests with a tasting passport can head to downtown Wellsboro and try a variety of different chilis and chowders and support local animals in need.
“We’re happy to present a new twist on our chili tasting event which is now ‘Chili and Chowder with a Chance for Chocolate.’ We wanted to add chowders for our friends who aren’t crazy about chili, but still want to support local animals in need and get some chances to win chocolate," said Jim Howe, one of Second Chance’s founders and president of the board.
All of the money raised from the purchases of tasting passports will go towards helping local homeless, abandoned, and at-risk dogs and cats who are currently under the care of Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries
Several businesses are currently set to participate in the event at different places throughout the celebration. They will all try their hand at concocting a recipe for attendees to try.
Some of the businesses set to attend include Pop’s Culture Shoppe, Main Street Creamery, From My Shelf Books, Kelly’s Canyon Country Crafts, Los Agaves Taqueria, Shabby Rue, Wild Asaph Outfitters, Seniors Creations, Timeless Destination, Oregon Hill Wineries, Becks Bistro, and Hillstone Farms. Other sites will be announced as they are confirmed on Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries’ Facebook page.
Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries is a nonprofit organization who have been serving the community for 22 years.
"This event has grown every year thanks to support from the Wellsboro Chamber of Commerce and its Winter Celebration as well as the fantastic local businesses that serve as tasting sites. We can’t wait to see what they cook up this year!” said Howe.
Each tasting location will provide guests with the chance to enter to win a variety of chocolate prizes. After the tasting, guests can also utilize their passports to vote for their top three favorite chilis or chowders. Tasting passports can then be dropped off at either of the two following purchase locations or at any of the tasting sites.
Tasting passports will cost $10 each and can be purchased now at the Wellsboro Chamber of Commerce on 114 Main Street. They can also be purchased on the day of the event, February 10th, at Penn Oak Realty on 65 Main Street.
